Divorce and Hearing Loss.

You know, for months I've known it was worse but I didn't actually do anything about it.

Otosclerosis.
Otosclerosis is the most frequent cause of middle ear hearing loss in young adults. It typically begins in early to mid-adulthood. It is more common in women than in men. The condition usually affects both ears.

Symptoms:

Hearing loss may occur slowly at first but continue to get worse. (Check)

You may hear better in noisy environments that quiet ones. (Check)

Ringing in the ears (tinnitus) may also occur. (Sometimes?)

I was trying to wrap my head around it. I called my mom... because that's what a girl does when she has something huge to put on the table and needs someone to tell her everything is going to be okay. I needed The Talk. I needed the I'm so proud of you, you're such an amazing young woman, you're so beautiful, everything will be fine because you're so strong speech. I love that one.

But my parents finalized their divorce today. So we talked about that instead.

Sometimes it's okay not to put your shoulders back and take the pain. Sometimes it's okay to drink sake and talk to friends and be emotional. I'll be strong tomorrow, but tonight... well, this is what I'm doing.
